This book is about risk, where and how we take it, and our responses to it. It starts with an overview of the many facets of risk which we face and some of the ways we have learned to live with chance and risk. The author, who publishes in the field of OHS, has stepped outside the workplace and looked at safety and risk from the point of view of the wider community, extending some of the principles used to manage workplace risk to that community. Each chapter commences with a scene setting scenario, and is accompanied by relevant boxed text taking examples of the issue discussed primarily from newspaper and journal sources. Chapters include risk, community safety and security, leisure safety, fitting equipment to us, road safety, DIY risk managment, workplace risk, the environment and change and challenge in risk. The book does not include some major incidents which occurred in the noughties. |
